This was tested using iTunes, Windows Media Player(WMP), and Musicbee, and before sending out the path to the Players across the network, iTunes and WMP along with the network card on the computer convert and keep track of those characters before sending it to the Sonos Players. While the M3U file contains the correct path, Sonos being a network device, the Players are receiving an incorrect path as those characters need to be parse before being sent across the network.
Is there any way to address this within MusicBee?Īfter further investigation with the team, we have found out that this issue was due to all extended ASCII characters such as é, ö, ò, etc., not being supported over the network protocols (NetBios, SMB, etc).

UPDATE - this is the message I received from Sonos Tech support regarding the issue. It seems that somehow the way that MusicBee playlist XML/text is describing the tracks that use these special characters is not readable, where the Windows Media player text is. The same for a song by the artist "Monáe" (note the "a").Īgain, the same song when added to an m3u playlist in Windows Media Player works fine through the Sonos app, but the MusicBee playlist does not work for that song. Go to the iOS App Store and search for sonos export playlist and you’ll find it. It exports as human-readable (so you can manually do whatever you want with it) and machine-readable (for more advanced usage). So for example, a song who's path had the word "Versión" in it (note the "o") could not be properly played in Sonos when part of an m3u playlist created in MusicBee. When I create the same playlist in Windows Music Player with the same songs, it works fine and the songs play through Sonos.Īfter working with Sonos tech support to troubleshoot, what I realized is that it was only happening to songs that have a foreign character somewhere in the path - song title, artist name, album title. I could see that the Path was not correct - it was not the path where the song is located, and when I open the MusicBee m3u file in a text editor, it is not the path that MusicBee playlist was describing.
The error message in the Sonos App would say Track Not Found and would show the path where it was trying to play the song but not finding it. Most songs would play properly, but certain songs were "Not Found" by the Sonos App. I was having an issue where playlists that I make in MusicBee were for some reason not functioning properly when I try to play them through Sonos.
